About Divine Life and Light Foundation

Divine Life and Light Foundation is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the array of possibilities available to blind and visually impaired individuals from all backgrounds, beginning in Nigeria. We aim to achieve this through education, entrepreneurship, and the strategic use of Assistive Technology.

Vision

To ensure that blind and Visually Impaired Persons (VIPs) are viewed beyond their disabilities and regarded as members of the society who are capable of meaningfully contributing in any capacity to the growth of their community and the economy.

Mission

To ensure inclusivity of the blind and VIPs in every sector of the society via Assistive Technology training, awareness, and advocacy.

Goals

Over the next years, DLLF aims to continue its work with the following goals being the premise for our work:

  • Provide VIPs the tools they require to make them capable and contributing members of the society through interactive modules that build market-ready skills particularly in the digital space.
  • To promote and support the participation of VIPs in all forms of social, economic, and political life.
  • To ensure equity and inclusion of VIPs and to eliminate any form of discrimination against them in every sector of society.

Operations

Divine Life and Light Foundation is a Christain non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering Visually Impaired Persons, primarily through assistive technology, community engagement, educational support, and specialized training. Central to its operations is the provision and customization of advanced assistive technology, ensuring that Visually Impaired Persons have access to tools and devices that enhance their learning and daily living experiences. The foundation actively engages with communities, fostering a network of support and understanding, and works closely with schools to promote inclusive educational practices.

Finance

At DLLF, the financial stewardship of our resources is critical to our mission of empowering Visually Impaired Persons through assistive technology, community engagement, school support, and specialized training. We are committed to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in all our financial operations. Our work is primarily funded through the generous contributions of individual donors, corporate sponsors, and philanthropic grants. We organize fundraising events to gather the necessary resources for our programs. We also welcome direct donations through our website, providing an easy and secure way for individuals and organizations to contribute to our cause.

About Founder/CEO

DivineGift David Usman is a graduate of Computer Science from the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. A visually impaired person himself, DivineGift is not a stranger to the prejudice faced by persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

DivineGift recounts his time at the university a challenging one that would not have been possible without the help of family, very good friends and a lot of grit.

After completing his compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria, DivineGift got introduced into the world of assistive technology by one of his mentors. With the introduction to assistive technology came opportunities that once seemed out of reach to him.

He has since devoted himself to training other visually impaired persons in the use of ATs as well as advocating for disability rights.

DivineGift is a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) and a member of global forums such as Judy Heumann's World Institute on Disability Leaders Forum (United States) and Snowdon Trust's Disabled Leaders Network (United Kingdom)
